In this video, Brandon Gorakhnauth, Marketing Engineer at Hamamatsu Photonics, introduces the company’s high-power spatial light modulator (SLM) from the laser division. The SLM dynamically manipulates the phase of a laser wavefront to create arbitrary optical beam shapes, enabling advanced beam control for a variety of applications.
Key applications include quantum computing, where optical lattices are used to trap and position atoms, as well as additive manufacturing, such as selective metal processing. The system supports high average powers up to 700 W, with kilowatt-level versions in development. Additional use cases include aberration correction in microscopy and optical systems.
The device is designed for flexible integration and ease of use, supporting control via DVI live streaming, GPIO triggering, or USB, with additional interfaces planned. The video also showcases the LCOS SLM blackbox demonstration setup, which includes mirrors and an objective lens to illustrate a typical optical configuration.
